Without a shadow of a doubt, Royal Ascot is the biggest Flat race meeting in the world.

Year upon year it attracts the best horses in training and it is a spectacle to behold. It comes second only to Grand National betting in terms of horse racing turnover.

Of course there is no Royal Ascot without the top trainers and top jockeys competing at the Berkshire track so it is well worth studying who does well on an annual basis at this globally recognised horse racing event.

Best Royal Ascot Trainers

Aidan O’Brien (85 Wins)

The trainer who currently holds the record for the most ever wins in the illustrious and long history of Royal Ascot is Aidan O’Brien.

The Irish trainer boasts a grand total of 85 winners at the Royal meeting with his first coming in 1997 with Harbour Master.

O’Brien broke the record previously set by Sir Michael Stoute in 2023 when landing the St James’s Palace Stakes with Ryan Moore steering Paddington to victory.

There is nothing surer than the fact that Aidan O’Brien will surpass his total of 85 wins at Royal Ascot, whether it is at the 2024 renewal or any subsequent renewals after that.

It is highly probable he will reach the 100 winners milestone before he calls time on his training career.

Sir Michael Stoute (82 Wins)

Throughout his illustrious career, Sir Michael Stoute clocked up a total of 82 wins at Royal Ascot. He is only bettered by one trainer and that is Aidan O’Brien.

Stoute broke Sir Henry Cecil’s record for wins at Royal Ascot in 2018 when he got his 76th win with Poet's Word in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes.

He now sits on a figure of 82, with his last Royal Ascot winner being in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes in 2021 with Dream of Dreams.

Sir Henry Cecil (75 Wins)

Sir Henry Cecil accumulated no less than a total of 75 wins in all across his career at Royal Ascot.

Cecil sadly passed away in 2013 but left behind an almost peerless legacy in the horse racing world, including at Royal Ascot.

Best Royal Ascot Jockeys

Lester Piggott (116 Wins)

The late Lester Piggott is the most successful jockey at Royal Ascot, racking up a total of 116 winners, a record which included 11 Gold Cup triumphs.

Frankie Dettori (81 Wins)

Frankie Dettori's career total of 81 Royal Ascot winners puts him in second place, with the Italian rider seemingly finishing his Royal Ascot career in 2023.

It is highly plausible that he may return in 2024 to ride some American entries being as he has extended his career in the USA. Expect Frankie to feature in Royal Ascot tips if he does come over for the meeting.

Ryan Moore (79 Wins)

Dawn Rising’s victory in last year’s Queen Alexandra Stakes moved Ryan Moore to within two winners of Dettori’s haul of 81 winners during his career.

If Dettori doesn’t get a book of rides in 2024 then Moore will be by far and away the most prolific jockey riding at this year’s Royal meeting, with his 79 winners putting him a cool 45 victories clear of William Buick.
